How to Keep A Positive Mindset

Everyone has those days where it feels like everything is going wrong. You missed a deadline for a project at work, and now your boss is disappointed in you for not finishing it on time. You drive home from work and realize that you forgot to pay the bills, so now you must worry about late fees.  It would be easy just to get mad and be irritated with yourself and yell at the world, but do not let it keep you down. Try to keep a positive mindset and understand that what you are feeling and experiencing is just a temporary setback and is going to help you become a better version of yourself in the future.

Turn Failures into Lessons

There is a popular quote from Bram Stoker out there that says, “We learn from failure, not from success.” You do not know how true and applicable it is in the real world until you experience it for yourself. Failure can be a very humbling lesson to us sometimes.

Everyone will experience failure in their life. Failure can either set you back or help you grow. Some people tend to be harder on themselves than others, especially if you are not accustomed to experiencing many failures. Don’t let it consume you and hold you back from succeeding, instead try to find out what you can do to make sure you don’t let whatever caused you to fail from happening again. Failure is just a temporary setback on this road we call life.

Forever Relentless understands that we all have daily struggles to keep a positive mindset. Use the Shift Your Mindset worksheet to redirect your mindset into a positive direction by restating your vision, goals, and long-term changes.

Be Present

To be present is to be experiencing the moment you are in right now. Do not stress too much about things in the future as they are just noise preventing you from appreciating where you are. Sometimes you just need to relax and take a step back to truly appreciate the present.

There are days with a lot going on around you, which may cause you to stress out and feel overwhelmed. Instead of trying to tackle everything that seems to be going wrong, try to focus on the one thing you can realistically try to fix. Take a deep breath and try to block out everything that is keeping you from being present. Become more aware of what you are doing and appreciate the moment. Being present will help you become more relaxed and in tune with your surroundings.

Everyone is always worrying about the next thing that’s about to happen, rather than focusing on the now. Next time you feel overwhelmed and stressed, take a deep breath, and try to appreciate the moment you are in.

Surround Yourself with Supportive People

You need to have people around you who will support you and always be there for you no matter how tough life gets. Sometimes you need people to tell you to keep going. Supportive people want you to succeed in whatever it is that you are doing. Their support helps you become more confident in yourself. They will lend you a helping hand whenever you are struggling to make sure you do not quit.

Setting goals for yourself is easy, but sometimes they are hard to reach, especially if the only person you have to support you, is you. With a group of people who support you, they will help you stay on that course to reach your goal. They are the people you lean on whenever you start doubting yourself, and they will encourage you not to stop. Sometimes we feel like it is just us against the world even though we have people who want to see us succeed. With a great support group behind you, even the most daunting challenges will look conquerable.

Release Built-up Negativity Daily

Letting negative emotions build up within you can negatively impact your mental and physical well-being. It can negatively impact your relationships, your job performance, and yourself. That is why you must be able to release this negativity daily and be your personal best.

One of the best ways to release built-up negativity is through exercising. Exercising has been shown to decrease anxiety, stress, and a negative mood by providing a boost in your self-esteem. Exercising releases endorphins, which are pain relievers that are commonly known as the “feel good” chemicals. Along with endorphins, exercising can also stimulate the release of serotonin and dopamine. Serotonin helps boost your overall well-being, and dopamine is commonly known as a “feel good” neurotransmitter since it plays a part in how we feel pleasure. Exercising is a great way to release negative emotions and have a clearer mind.

Mindful Breathing

If you are looking for a simpler way of releasing negativity, doing mindful breathing can help you become more relaxed and reduce stress from the buildup of negative thoughts. Breathing in and out in a slow and controlled manner releases tension in your body and helps to tell your brain that everything is all calm and good in the body. Mindful breathing can be a very meditative experience that you can start implementing into your daily routine.

Finding a Hobby

Something we all do to not focus on the negative thoughts is doing something we enjoy. Some people workout as an escape from the daily rigors of life, while other people enjoy reading a book to dive into another world free from the negativity they are experiencing in life. Picking up a hobby can help release negative emotions and can help you feel more at ease.

Do not let negativity build up inside of you. Find ways to release it before it starts taking complete hold of you. Try any of these activities to see if they can help you release those negative thoughts and get back to enjoying life.

Focus On The Good in Life

Focusing on the good in life is a quote we have all heard at least once in our lives. The reason we listen to it so much is because sometimes we forget, even in the worst of situations, that there is always something good to grasp onto.

For example, imagine that you are moving to a new city that you have never been to. You’re probably anxious about the thought of moving away from what has been your home for many years. The move-in date comes, and you begin the moving process. You start to realize that you don’t know anybody in the city yet. At that moment, you feel anxious. Instead of just giving in to that feeling, choose to focus on the new opportunities presented to you. There are many new things to explore and people to meet. Focusing on the good in every situation helps you realize that everything is going to be okay. Every new opportunity offers room for growth. Focusing on the good in life can help make a “bad” situation become a positive, learning experience.

Stay Positive

Keeping a positive mindset in life is very beneficial to your mental well-being. Giving in to those negative thoughts and emotions can hold you back from being your personal best. Do not let them hold you back, learn from them, and keep going forward!
